Officers must be undergraduate students who can attend meetings regularly and can fulfill their responsibilities as detailed in the constitution. The Executive Board and other Committee Chairs will be elected no later than three weeks prior to the beginning spring term. The Executive Board will be comprised of all of JSA’s officers listed below:
a) President: Any class standing except freshman; must be a full time student. Must be on campus for the year.
a. The President is responsible for the following:
i. Relations between the University administration and JSA.
ii. Relations between recognized University student organizations and JSA.
iii. Relations between the student body and JSA.
iv. Relations between the involved school districts and organizations and JSA.
v. Presiding over general and executive board meetings.
vi. Member of the Executive Board
b) Vice President: Any class standing; must be a full time student. Must be on campus for the year.
a. The Vice President is responsible for the following:
i. Oversee committee chairs
ii. Perform as standing officer at the absence of President
iii. In the absence of a chair, Vice President is to give reports at meeting
iv. Member of the Executive Board.
c) Secretary: Any class standing; must be a full time student. Must be on campus for the year. Must attend all meetings or find a replacement for missed meetings.
a. The Secretary is responsible for the following:
i. Recording of minutes of both the Executive and General Board meetings.
ii. Position of webmaster.
iii. To maintain a record of all actions and correspondence of JSA.
iv. Member of the Executive Board.
d) Treasurer: Any class standing; must be a full time student. Must be on campus for the year.
a. The Treasurer is responsible for the following:
i. Creating and maintaining the SAFAC budget.
ii. Assist in fundraising for Hillel/JSA
iii. Providing a regular report of the current financial status of JSA during the General meetings or upon the request of the Executive Board.
iv. Member of the Executive Board.
e) Committee Chairs: Any class standing; must be a full time student.
a. The Committee Chair is responsible for the following:
i. Planning and organizing their respective events and programs
a) Submitting appropriate pre-event materials to Hillel staff
b) Appropriate promotion of events
c) Appropriate follow up to events
ii. Must report to the Vice President and give reports to the Vice President if absent at a meeting
iii. These chairs must be voted on by a simple majority of the organization (51% of JSA)
Current Chair Positions Available:
Israel Chair
- Additional responsibilities
- Promote Israel advocacy through on campus events and work with other student organizations
- Will work with the Hillel Israel Program Coordinator and Campus interns to effectively advocate for Israel on Campus
- Provide both education and cultural Israel events
- Create a supportive environment on campus for different views and opinions that ultimately support Israel and its right to exist.
Community Service Chair
- Additional responsibilities
- Provide information and opportunities for students to participate in Service opportunities at Drexel and throughout the greater community
- Provide a Jewish context for community service and action
Shabbat Chair
- Additional responsibilities
- Facilitate and execute Shabbat dinner and programs
- Make sure all materials are transported from Hillel to Shabbat location
- Select volunteers to lead Shabbat blessings, make announcements and assist in cleanup
- Coordinate and/or support additional and alternative Shabbat programming
- Coordinate General board for tasks associated with Shabbat(promotion, Jewish content, etc…)
Jewish Education Chair
- Additional responsibilities
- Provide access to Jewish education encompassing the many diverse aspects of Jewish culture, tradition, and heritage, people- and nationhood.
- Provide informal and formal Jewish learning opportunities on campus and in Hillel
- Generate innovative ideas and discussion about Jewish education on campus and serve as a framework for support, assistance, and feedback in carrying out specific programs including but not limited to:
i. Shabbat
ii. Holidays
iii. Speakers and Programs
iv. Interfaith programs and events
Social Chair
- Additional responsibilities
- Provide events, programs, and/or opportunities to support social development of Jewish community at Drexel
- Provide social context and assistance for programming already in action
i. Post-Shabbat
ii. Holiday celebrations
iii. Hillel/JSA presence at University Wide events
Public Relations Chair
