Drexel Hillel/JSA Board Positions

Officers must be undergraduate students who can attend meetings regularly and can fulfill their responsibilities as detailed in the constitution.  The Executive Board and other Committee Chairs will be elected no later than three weeks prior to the beginning spring term.  The Executive Board will be comprised of all of JSA’s officers listed below:

 

 President: Any class standing except freshman; must be a full time student.  Must be on campus for the year. Must have held a JSA board position in the past.

a.     The President is responsible for the following:

                                               i.     Relations between the University administration and JSA.

                                             ii.     Relations between recognized University student organizations and JSA.

                         iii.   Relations between the student body and JSA.

                         iv.    Relations between JSA and Hillel of Greater Philadelphia and other non-campus organizations with which we have relationships.

                          v.    Presiding over general and executive board meetings.

                         vi.   Member of the Executive Board

                        vii.   Share in committee oversight

  

Vice President: Any class standing; must be a full time student.  Must be on campus for the year.

a. The Vice President is responsible for the following:

i.    Share committee oversight with President

ii.   Perform as standing officer at the absence of President

iii.  In the absence of a chair, Vice President is to give reports at meeting

iv.  Member of the Executive Board.

 

 Secretary: Any class standing; must be a full time student.  Must be on campus for the year. Must attend all meetings or find a replacement for missed meetings.

a.  The Secretary is responsible for the following:

                              i.   Recording of minutes of both the Executive and General Board meetings.

                             ii.   Responsible for social media (facebook)

                            iii.   To maintain a record of all actions and correspondence of JSA.

                            iv.   Member of the Executive Board.

 

Treasurer: Any class standing; must be a full time student.  Must be on campus for the year. 

a.  The Treasurer is responsible for the following:

                             i.   Creating and maintaining the SAFAC budget.

                            ii.   Assist in fundraising for Hillel/JSA

                           iii.   Providing a regular report of the current financial status of JSA during the General meetings or upon the request of the Executive Board.

                                              iv.     Member of the Executive Board.

                                                v.     Attend all required SAFAC trainings for student organization treasurers

                                              vi.     Process check requests and reimbursements from the JSA account

 

Committee Chairs: Any class standing; must be a full time student. 

a.       The Committee Chair is responsible for the following:

                             i.    Planning and organizing their respective events and programs

                            ii.    Submitting appropriate pre-event materials to Hillel staff     

                           iii.   Appropriate promotion  of events

                           iv.   Appropriate follow up to events

                            v.   Report weekly to the JSA Board, must provide a report to the Vice President if he/she will be absent from a meeting 

Current Chair Positions Available:

Israel Chair:  The Israel Representative to the JSA board will be an appointed representative from Dragons for Israel

 

Tzedek / Community Service Chair:

  1. Additional responsibilities
    1. Provide information students to participate in Service opportunities at Drexel and throughout the greater community
    2. Provide a Jewish context for community service and action
    3. Create and plan distinct opportunities for students to do community service through Hillel
    4. Serve on the committee for Hillel’s Alternative Spring Break

 

Shabbat Chair:

  1. Additional responsibilities
    1. Facilitate and execute Shabbat dinner and programs
    2. Make sure all materials are transported from Hillel to Shabbat location
    3. Select volunteers to lead Shabbat blessings, make announcements and assist in cleanup
    4. Coordinate and/or support additional and alternative Shabbat programming
    5. Coordinate General board for tasks associated with Shabbat(promotion, Jewish content, etc…)
    6. Coordinate Shabbat services
    7. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT FOR SHABBAT DINNER (not Happy Hour):
      1. If on campus for a Shabbat that Hillel/JSA is hosting Shabbat dinner, the Shabbat chair is required to attend (unless they are ill)
      2. Shabbat chairs are permitted to miss 2 Shabbat dinners per term for family / off-campus commitments provided that they organize leadership for the evening’s events, appoint a point person to take their place for that Shabbat and take care of other logistical responsibilities

 

Jewish Education Chair

  1. Additional responsibilities
    1. Provide access to Jewish education encompassing the many diverse aspects of Jewish culture, tradition, and heritage, people- and nationhood.
    2. Provide informal and formal Jewish learning opportunities on campus and in Hillel
    3. Generate innovative ideas and discussion about Jewish education on campus and serve as a framework for support, assistance, and feedback in carrying out specific programs including but not limited to: Shabbat, Holidays, Interfaith events, speakers and other programs.
    4. Coordinate religious observance and education for all Jewish holidays

 

Social Chair

  1. Additional responsibilities
    1. Provide events, programs, and/or opportunities to support social development of Jewish community at Drexel
    2. Provide social context and assistance for programming already in action: Holiday Celebrations, Hillel / JSA presence at University Wide events

 

Public Relations Chair

  1. Additional responsibilities
    1. Coordinate the creation of marketing materials for events including:
      1. Fliers/Posters
      2. Sandwich Boards
      3. Creese Display Case 
      4. InfoNet Ads
    2. Organize Public Relations Events Each Term 
      1. Tabling Events
      2. Supervise University Events
        1. Activities Unlimited
        2. Freshman Orientations
      1. Share event information with relevant groups
        1. AEPi
        2. ABY
        3. SAM
        4. Student Interfaith Council
        5. Inter-Fraternity Council
        6. Pan-Hellenic Council
        7. Resident Hall Association
        8. USGA
