Name: Hannah Alexander
Year: 3rd year (Pre-Junior)
Position Desired: President
Candidate Bio: Please share a little bit about yourself:
My name is Hannah Alexander and I'm a communications major and Spanish minor in my pre-junior year. Since being an active member of Hillel since freshmen year I've decided to try and become president of this organization that I've become so close to.
What do you hope to achieve in this position? Please share some specific ideas.:
As president I hope to increase the number of students active in Hillel. I want to also work with the board and think of new and creative programming ideas that would attract new students to come. I'd also like Jewish students of all religious backgrounds to feel welcome and comfortable with our student organization. I also think it would be beneficial for us to work more with other student organizations to become more visible on campus.
What experiences and qualifications do you have for this position?:
Although I have never formally been on board, this past year I have been working with the current Hillel board as Israel intern. I also attend the majority of Hillel events and therefore am familiar with most students active in Hillel. I know what goes into planning an event, making it successful and appeal to the most amount of students. I also know that without changes and new ideas are needed so that Hillel can continue to serve as the center of Jewish student life on campus. Currently I'm a student advisor on the Hillel of Greater Philadelphia Executive Board and do my best to remind them that the importance of the Drexel Jewish community.
What other responsibilities do you have and how much time can you allot to Hillel/JSA responsibilities?:
My other responsibilities will be coop for the spring and summer terms and then classes for the following fall and winter terms. I also write as an op-ed writer for the Triangle a few weeks each term. However I think I will be able to allot sufficient time to this position and remain dedicated.
Anything else you would like people to know about you?:
I have been with Hillel since my freshman year and plan to stay with it till graduation. I have seen certain positives and negatives go on within this organization and I'd like to maximize the positives and diminish the negatives. Although Hillel is made up of many active Jewish students, I'd like the many other uninvolved Jewish students come out and see what a great Jewish community we have here. I think right now there is a lot of potential and I am hopeful that we as an organization can improve, expand and become stronger.
What is your favorite thing about Hillel?: The people!
